Conflict among humans is an inevitable aspect of life. Conflict occurs in the absence of agreement between two persons or group of people. In Amos 3 vs. 3, the Holy Bible recorded “Can two walk together unless they be agreed” . In other words, where there is absence of agreement, understanding or there is difference in beliefs, vision, values, opinions, needs, interests between individuals who cannot meet half way, in such event there is bound to be conflict.
Conflict can happen anywhere, as it is a respecter of no status. It can happen between couples, family members, in the church, among friends and even at the work place between colleagues, or employee and employer. Conflict need not result into physical altercation; it could be emotional which would result in change of behavior towards colleagues, friends and family. In this type of conflict, the affected individual begins to nag towards all, thereby leading to exchange of words between the individuals. A Conflict not only can arise between individuals but also among countries, political parties and states as well. A small conflict not controlled at the correct time may lead to a large war and rifts among countries leading to major unrest and disharmony.
This paper therefore intends to fashion out solutions that will help the workplace in its conflict management. Also, this paper intends to enlighten on what workplace Conflict is, the causes, classes of conflict, the effect, how to resolve workplace conflict, including the stages of conflict resolution in workplace.
